A short briefing sets the tone for your gorilla adventure. Begin with a Kigali City Tour - exploring Rwanda's clean, organized capital . Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, a powerful tribute to Rwanda's history and a place of reflection and education . Mid-Morning | Depart for Volcanoes National Park Drive northwest out of Kigali - 80 kilometres through the rolling hills of Rwanda. The journey takes approximately 2–3 hours through terraced hillsides, valleys, and views of the Virunga Volcanoes . Your driver will pause at scenic viewpoints so you can capture the "Land of a Thousand Hills." Stopover | Nyirangarama Market A refreshing break at Nyirangarama - a vibrant roadside market. Stretch your legs, buy a drink, and soak in local life before continuing to the park . Afternoon | Iby'iwacu Cultural Village Visit the Iby'iwacu Cultural Village - a living museum formerly known as the Gorilla Guardians Village. Experience traditional Rwandan dance performances, explore a replica of the king's palace, witness local crafts, and learn how former poachers became conservationists protecting the gorillas they once threatened . Evening | Check-In at Your Lodge Check into your chosen accommodation and enjoy dinner: Budget: Muhabura Hotel / Kinigi Guest House Mid-Range: Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / La Palme Luxury: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Silverback Lodge Dinner and overnight. Rest well - tomorrow is the day you've been waiting for. Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Return to Kigali 6:30 AM | Early Breakfast & Transfer After an early breakfast at your lodge, grab your packed lunch and transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters for your briefing . 7:00 AM | Briefing at Kinigi Join other trekkers for a briefing by your guide/ranger. Learn the rules: maintain a distance of five to seven metres, no flash photography, no feeding, no touching. You'll be grouped with no more than eight trekkers, along with a guide, an armed ranger, and porters. You'll be assigned a gorilla family based on fitness levels and group dynamics . Morning | The Trek Begins Ascend into the park to track your assigned gorilla group. The time taken to track these shy giants varies from a few minutes to several hours depending on the gorillas' location and weather conditions . Chances of not finding the gorillas are very slim - by the time you start the trek, your guide/ranger has an idea of where to find them using knowledge of gorilla movements and their known location the day before . The Moment Arrives | One Hour with the Mountain Gorillas When you finally locate your gorilla group, a maximum of one hour is allowed to observe and photograph the gorillas . Watch them feed, play, groom, and rest. Silverbacks assert authority. Infants cling to mothers. The encounter is intimate, humbling, unforgettable. Afternoon | Return to Lodge & Check Out After the thrilling gorilla experience, descend to your lodge. Lunch is served. Check out and prepare for the journey back. Afternoon | Drive to Kigali Depart Volcanoes National Park and drive back to Kigali - retracing the scenic route through the thousand hills . Evening | Drop-Off Arrive in Kigali.
